Idrees Kahloon is the Washington Bureau Chief for The Economist and leads its coverage of the White House, Congress and national politics. Prior to that, he was the Washington correspondent and US policy correspondent with the newspaper, covering domestic politics and policy. He began at The Economist as a data journalist in London.

Idrees designed the magazine's successful predictive model of the 2016 Brexit referendum and published the first accurate measurement of the ethnic composition of Lebanon since 1932.

Before joining The Economist, Idrees spent a lot of time writing for The Harvard Crimson and interned with the editorial boards of The Lexington Herald-Leader and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. 

His work has been published in Harvard Magazine and The New Yorker. He has spoken to CNN, Fox News, NPR and frequently appears on podcasts by The Economist, including "Checks and Balance" about American politics.
