Douglas Ramage has more than 25 years of experience in Indonesia and is a well-known analyst, frequent public speaker and media commentator on Indonesian affairs. He works with the business and investment advisory firm, BowerGroup Asia, a premier consultancy providing advice to Fortune 500 companies investing in Indonesia. Douglas is adept at presenting complex Indonesia country risk assessments to company boards and executives in a compelling and understandable manner.

His publications include Indonesia for Indonesians: Can the United States Relate? (co-authored with Murray Hiebert, Center for Strategic and International Studies – 2013); Indonesia as a Normal Country (co-authored with Andrew MacIntyre, Australian Strategic Policy Institute - 2008; A Reformed Indonesia? Australian Financial Review -- 2007; Indonesia in 2006: Democracy First, Good Governance Later (Southeast Asian Affairs – ISAS 2007; Politics in Indonesia: Democracy, Islam and the Ideology of Tolerance (Routledge, London -- 1995 & 1997). He is interviewed regularly for his views on international TV and web.

Sample assignments include keynote presentations to investment and business conferences to highlight the key economic and political developments which are likely to shape Indonesia's next phase of its development. He also provides confidential briefings to senior executives and boards.

Douglas is also a Governor of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Indonesia, as well as its Trade and Investment Committee Chair. From 1996 to 2008, he worked for The Asia Foundation, Jakarta, with regional responsibility for Indonesia, Malaysia & East Timor. He has served in senior government and international organization roles in Indonesia, as governance and politics advisor to both The World Bank and the Australian government's development programme in Indonesia. Douglas is a former East-West Center Fellow and taught at the University of Hawaii. He spent two years (1991-93) as Fulbright Scholar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Jakarta and at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore in 1989.

Douglas is American who lives and works in Jakarta. He is fluent in Bahasa Indonesia.
