Navigating Complexity - Interpreting Economic and Public Policy Developments for Senior Business Leaders

Based in Singapore, Andrew Staples is the Founder and Principal of GeoPol Asia, a boutique advisory service operating at the intersection of geopolitics, business and strategy. He helps leaders and organisations navigate geopolitical risk and prepare for opportunity. He is also the Singapore Forum Chair for IMA Asia and a member of the advisory board at the Hinrich Foundation.

Andrew was previously the Editorial Director and Head of Policy & Insights (APAC) at Economist Impact, the custom research and engagement division of The Economist Group, where he also led the Policy Research team for Asia. He was formerly the Global Director and Chief Economist for the Economist Corporate Network. Andrew provides clients with insight and analysis on a range of issues related to doing business in the Asia Pacific region.

He regularly presents at corporate meetings, including strategy board meetings, planning and budget-setting sessions, leadership off-sites and for gatherings with visiting global leaders. His areas of expertise which include international political economy, trade, risk, foreign direct investment, corporate strategy and comparative management. He is also an expert chairman of panels and moderates major events. 

He regularly appears in the international media 9BBC, CNN, CNBC, Channel News Asia. Al Jazeera0 and has published widely in his areas of expertise. He was also previously a Senior Editor for the internationally peer-reviewed journal Asian Business and Management. 

Andrew has a PhD in International Political Economy and an MSc in East Asian Business, both from the University of Sheffield, UK. He was a Ministry of Education research scholar at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo (2001-2003) and before joining The Economist Group. Andrew pursued an academic career holding both tenured and adjunct posts at leading universities and business schools in Japan and the UK.
